Dear Ruggles Lane Community,
At a recent family presentation, the administrative team PK-12 came together to share information about our safety practices. We were able to break out into small groups after the presentation and have a very productive conversation with elementary parents. Please click here for a copy of the QRSD Parent Guide for School Emergencies distributed that evening. You can also view the presentation by clicking here.
We do have a Crisis Management Team at Ruggles Lane. At our first meeting during this school year, the team created a shared vision which is: “We will develop and continuously revise an Emergency Operations Plan that is universally understood by the students, staff and families of the Ruggles Lane School, as well as the necessary outside stakeholders. In addition, we will work together as a team to proactively keep students and staff safe from threats and hazards. In the event of a school based emergency, this team will coordinate the school’s response and recovery efforts.” We take this vision very seriously as we all believe that student and staff safety (physical and emotional) is our number one most important job.
In addition to crafting our vision, the team worked to update our On Site Evacuation plan. Changes were made to this procedure and taught to staff at our first early release day of the school year that focused on safety. Students have also been taught this new procedure and we will be conducting our first On Site Evacuation drill on Monday, October 15th. We will update you throughout the year as drills are conducted.
It is important to note that while the team is working to develop our Emergency Operations Plan, there is already a plan in place. Our efforts to create this new plan is part of district-wide efforts to update our plans with guidance from the federal government through FEMA.
Please scroll down to read about some important updates about the pie fundraiser, our food drive, the excuse note pad fundraiser, the chance to win a ride on a fire truck to school, and much, much more! Should you have any questions or concerns about anything in this newsletter, or any other aspect of your child’s RLS experience, please let us know. Do not hesitate to give us a call, to send an email or to stop by the office.
Regards,
Julie & Chris

Picture of the Week
We had a great time celebrating National Talk Like A Pirate Day on September 19th thanks to Mrs. Hilcoff as she passed out a script for us for the day!
5th grade would like to share some exciting news: Does your family love pie? Do they love to bake cookies? Does your household host Thanksgiving or provide desserts for the special day? Last week, Ruggles Lane kicked off our annual pie and cookie dough fundraiser. These pies are a great way to prepare for Thanksgiving and help the 5th grade class raise money for Nature’s Classroom at the same time. Students should have brought home a packet with all of the information. This sale will run until October 22, with delivery before Thanksgiving on November 5.
*Please note that the Chocolate French Silk Pie ingredient list does include Allen’s Coffee Brandy. Please use the link provided on the paperwork for any other nutritional information.
Thank you for your support!
The Grade 5 Team
This Wednesday, October 10th, is the International Walk to School Day. Thousands of schools across the country will participate! If you’ve never walked with us, participating this week will be extra fun! We regularly have about 20 friends walk with us. How many will walk this week?
We will be having a food drive at Ruggles Lane from October 9th-31st. We will be collecting non-perishable foods. Please do not send any glass jars. The food that is collected will be distributed by the food pantry in November – think Thanksgiving!
How cool would it be to get to ride to school on a fire truck! Click here for a contest in which your child can win just that!
We are excited to provide an opportunity for our Ruggles Readers to share what they are reading throughout the year! Click here for a link to our year-long reading project.
